Our Partnership with Dodo Payments
Who Dodo Payments is, what they bring to the table, and what that means for you as a customer.
Picking who processes your payments isn’t a glamorous decision, but it’s one that actually touches every single customer, so it deserves more thought than “whichever one has the lowest fee.” We went with Dodo Payments, and it’s worth introducing them properly rather than just quietly routing your checkout through a name you’ve never heard of.
Who Dodo Payments is
Dodo Payments is a payment infrastructure company built specifically for software and digital products, rather than a general-purpose processor retrofitted for SaaS. They operate across more than 100 countries and support over 50 local payment methods, which matters more than it might sound: it means a customer in Berlin, Manila, or São Paulo gets a checkout that feels native to them, in their own currency and with payment methods they actually use day to day, instead of a US-centric card form bolted onto every market.
On the security side, Dodo runs real-time fraud detection and multi-layered security protocols on every transaction, combined with PCI DSS Level 1 compliance, the highest tier of that certification. Because Dodo is the Merchant of Record (more on that below), fraud and chargeback liability sits with them, not with FileGriffon, which is as much a customer protection as it is a business one: disputes get handled by a company set up specifically to handle them, not a small team improvising a process.
What their Merchant of Record model means for you
Dodo acts as the Merchant of Record for every FileGriffon purchase, meaning they’re the legal seller on the transaction, not us directly. In practice, that means:
- Tax is calculated correctly, automatically, wherever you’re buying from. Sales tax and VAT rules vary enormously by country and region, and getting that wrong is a real liability for a small software business. Dodo handles the calculation and remittance, so the price you see reflects what actually applies to you rather than a flat number that quietly becomes wrong once tax is added.
- Your card details never reach us. You check out on Dodo’s own hosted page. We receive confirmation that a purchase happened and an email address to send your key to, nothing about your card itself.
- A processor built for software, not general retail. Dodo’s checkout, webhook system, and license-delivery tooling are aimed specifically at SaaS and digital products, which shows up in small ways: cleaner checkout pages, sane subscription handling, and support for a genuinely wide range of regional payment methods rather than just US-centric cards.
What you can actually pay with
Checkout supports credit and debit cards globally, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay. Beyond that, Dodo supports a long list of regional methods depending on where you’re buying from, including iDEAL and Bancontact in parts of Europe, UPI in India, Pix in Brazil, WeChat Pay, and buy-now-pay-later options like Klarna and Afterpay in supported regions. You won’t need to hunt for the right option; checkout automatically shows what’s relevant to your country and currency. PayPal isn’t currently offered, that’s a platform-wide pause on Dodo’s side, not a FileGriffon decision.
Why this mattered enough to write about
None of this is invisible to you as a customer. It’s the reason a purchase completes in seconds with a key in your inbox instead of a manual follow-up email, the reason the price at checkout already accounts for your local tax correctly, and the reason we can say plainly that we never see your card number, because we genuinely don’t.
If you’ve already made a purchase and are wondering what the actual charge on your statement means, we wrote a short, direct explainer for that specifically: Why Your Card Statement Shows “DP* DODOPAY FILEGRIFFO”. This post was about who we partnered with and why; that one’s about what you’ll actually see afterward.
