Why Your Card Statement Shows "DP* DODOPAY FILEGRIFFO"

How FileGriffon processes payments through Dodo Payments, and what to expect on your bank or card statement.

If you bought a FileGriffon license and your card or bank statement shows something like “DP* DODOPAY FILEGRIFFO,” that’s a real, expected charge, not fraud, and not a mistake. It’s us. Here’s what actually happened and why it’s worded that way.

Why the charge doesn’t just say “FileGriffon”

We don’t process payments ourselves. FileGriffon uses Dodo Payments as our payment processor, and specifically as our Merchant of Record, meaning Dodo is the legal seller on the transaction, not FileGriffon directly. That’s a deliberate setup, not a technicality: it means Dodo, not us, handles calculating and remitting the right sales tax or VAT for your country automatically at checkout, along with the actual card processing, fraud checks, and compliance work that comes with taking payments internationally.

Because Dodo is the entity that actually processes the charge, their name appears on your statement rather than ours alone. “DP*” is a common short prefix card networks and processors use ahead of a business name (you’ll see similar prefixes from plenty of other online purchases), “DODOPAY” is Dodo’s own billing identifier, and “FILEGRIFFO” is our business name, truncated to fit whatever character limit the specific card network or bank applies to statement lines. Dodo’s own support documentation confirms customers should expect to see “DODOPAY” or “Dodo Payments” on statements for exactly this reason, across all the businesses that use them, not just FileGriffon.

What Dodo Payments actually is

Dodo Payments is a payment infrastructure company built specifically for software and digital products. When you buy a FileGriffon license, you’re checking out on Dodo’s own hosted checkout page, not a page we built and host ourselves. If you’re curious why we specifically picked Dodo over other processors, we wrote about that separately: Our Partnership with Dodo Payments.

Security: what actually touches your card details

Your card number, expiry, and CVC are entered directly into Dodo’s checkout, never into anything FileGriffon operates. We don’t collect, see, or store your payment card number or other financial account details at any point, full stop, which is also stated plainly in our privacy policy. What we receive back from Dodo after a purchase is limited to confirmation that a purchase happened, which product tier was bought, and the email address to send your license key to.

Dodo operates as a PCI DSS Level 1 compliant processor, the highest tier of that standard, which in practice means the checkout page itself, the card data handling, and the fraud-prevention systems are built and audited to that standard, and none of that compliance burden sits on FileGriffon’s own infrastructure because we never touch the underlying card data in the first place.

Payment methods

Checkout supports credit and debit cards broadly, along with Apple Pay and Google Pay, and Dodo supports a long list of additional regional payment methods beyond that (iDEAL, Bancontact, and various country-specific options among them) depending on where you’re purchasing from. PayPal isn’t currently offered, that’s a platform-wide pause on Dodo’s side, not a FileGriffon decision.

If something goes wrong

Refunds and billing disputes are handled per our refund policy, and since Dodo is the Merchant of Record, refunds get processed back to your original payment method through them. If a charge looks unfamiliar or you can’t place it, checking your email for a Dodo Payments receipt (search for “Dodo” or “DODOPAY”) is usually the fastest way to confirm it’s a real FileGriffon purchase before assuming the worst.
